I rescued a lizard trapped in my wheelbarrow this morning. She is now free to be herself somewhere in my back yard. I hope she eats all the mosquitos.

Yes, it was a female western fence lizard. The cool thing about them is their blood has a protein in it that kills the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, and if a tick carrying that disease bites one of these lizards, the lizard's blood kills the bacteria in the tick's body as well, and prevents it from spreading the disease to other animals and people!

I need that protein in my body! It's Lyme disease central up here.

I read an article years ago about how scientists are studying this lizard to see if that blood protein can be used to treat or cure Lyme disease in humans. It was a promising article. I think this is it, the article is from 1998:
