So nobody ever gets crazy with that shit?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
DA - are you saying nobody's ever died from drinking too much water? I'm gonna judge you as a suicidal moron if you ever drink water, you just never know!

Nobody's saying that we should ban all people who are fans of villain characters, dude

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't say anything about banning, I'm just saying if you're going to pull out "Well, if even ONE person has taken fandom things too far..." you gotta understand how ridiculous you sound.

I'm not saying that

I'm saying, since we both agree some people do that, OP is maybe not an insane self-righteous prude and might just be talking about something they've seen that annoys them

No, they don't.

They were crazy from the beginning and fandom was just the outlet for the already existing crazyness. Media doesn't turn good people bad. If they go crazy in fandom, various problems had to exist before.

Fandom is an activity that you can do alone, at home, you just need your computer and an internet connection. It's not the sort of hobby that requires you to go outside or meet people face to face. So I'm really not surprised it's somewhat of a magnet for weirdos and unhinged people.
Also, it's comparatively easy to gain popularity in fandom if you play your cards right, be it by producing fanworks or simply being good at manipulating people. This can give one the allusion of being important or powerful, even when your real life is awful. So, another appealing aspect for people who had problems beforehand.
