I think it's funny how just because you struggled to get through the first two books, you assumed everyone else who read them did too.

NAYRT but I thought the first two books had interesting ideas but the writing was only so so. The only reason I kept going was because people kept telling me the series got better.

I'm not the OP, but...

I struggled through the first books specifically because the movie was near-identical to them. I literally had no interest reading the exact book that I saw on screen.

Thankfully, when I started reading the books, PoA had just started filming, so I was able to go into the other books fresh.

This was exactly the same experience I had. Almost didn't bother with PoA since the first two books were such a chore for me to get through. But PoA hooked me completely.
