Re: Movies that have non-sexualized beautiful women

I'm not sure how the wives in Mad Max weren't sexualized, though. It's kinda written into their backstory that they're unwilling brood mares dressed in flowy, skimpy gowns. Even Ridley has her "I'm in space but I'm wearing a thong" moment.

What about Furiosa?

nayrt

Yeah, but I think the OP meant "movies with beautiful women, *none* of whom are sexualized" rather than "movies with beautiful women, a couple of whom are not sexualized."

Charlize Theron is a beautiful woman and Furiosa definitely isn't sexualized. She's also filthy, wearing dirty, non-revealing clothing and her head is shaven. This is not to say that she isn't beautiful nonetheless because again, Charlize Theron is beautiful. But I suspect that this isn't what the OP meant, because women who are wearing dirty, unappealing clothing, no glamorous make up, etc. don't necessarily deal with the same levels of sexualization in movies as women who have pretty clothes/hair, etc.

Even if it was what the OP meant, Furiousa doesn't really negate the presence of other beautiful women who are sexualized in the film.

There's been some good meta about how the camera really doesn't sexualize thgem, though (or Valkyrie when she's naked). Viewers may precieve them as sexualized because they find them sexy or because they expect that to happen, not because the movie is presenting them that way to a large degree.

Ehhhh, yeah, not really buying it. You know why viewers might find them sexy? It's not an accident, it's because the women cast for the Wives are all thin, conventionally attractive and dressed in revealing clothing. I mean, there are shots where you can see nipples through their thin tops. You think that's because wardrobe forgot there was such a thing as bras?

Ostensibly the Wives were chosen because they were healthy and therefore good breeding stock. Weird then none of them are short and stocky with broad hips, or none of them have a face like a potato. It's not a coincidence they look like models... it's because all of them except one ARE models.
