hard to say without knowing how much she knew at any given time, but I don't want to blame her already. how seriously did she take him? how much time did she have alone? he physically abused her, didn't he?

there have been instances where people managed to talk down shooters, even after they were halfway through a spree. the moment she was in the car with him she'd have to sacrifice herself to hinder him, which is an act of heroism we can't take for granted.
