Re: live musicals/plays/operas that make you cry
(Anonymous) 2016-06-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)Operas are really great, I started to listen (and appreciate) them, like, two years ago and it's been great, plus I get really happy everytime I recognize some famous arias and melodies
Re: live musicals/plays/operas that make you cry
(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 12:22 am (UTC)(link)I know! I had randomly caught the video on a classic arts channel and fell in love with it. There's a cute one for Traviata but I blank on the aria's name.
I know there's an aria in Lucia Di lammamor that is heartbreaking. It's right after Lucia's wedding. (Forgetting the soprano's name at the moment, but there's a production where you honestly think the singer has snapped)

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 12:28 am (UTC)(link)Do you have favorite composer or opera you think is essential to know or just something you like?
Re: live musicals/plays/operas that make you cry
(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 12:50 am (UTC)(link)Partial to Verdi and Puccini. Wagner is good but heavy.
For Verdi, I recommend Aida, Rigoletto, Trovatore, Traviata. For Puccini, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Turnadot.
Others I suggest are Cav/Pag (they're two acts each and usually paired together. Cav is the opera they use in Godfather 3), Barber of Seville.
Those are a few I've seen and enjoyed.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 02:08 am (UTC)(link)Ah, found the soprano in question for that Lucia scene I mentioned above:
Gianna Rolandi. The vid on youtube is broken into three parts (same user has all three so you should be good)
Here's part 1 of 3:
