Warcraft

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-06-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I finally saw it today, and I loved it. I mean, I get where the reviews are coming from. But it worked for me, even as someone who doesn't know the lore. I just love fantasy. It was an entertaining movie.

I understood it, but it was boring to me like 90% of the time. Pretty, but boring. Nice generic fantasy shit, guys...

I heard a lot of "Oh the humans are boring!" and while I don't really agree...I admit I can hardly remember their names.

I get that. It wasn't boring to me, though. Well, I'd say I found the first 20 minutes or so boring. But after that I was into it. And actually, I was much more interested in the humans than the orcs. But that's because the magic stuff is what I really loved the most.

It absolutely was generic fantasy. I guess I just like generic fantasy?

I do too, I like the LOTR movies and read (most of) the Inheritance trilogy, but somehow this really hit me over the head with it.

I totally get it. I can't even explain why I liked it so much, honestly. But I did. Maybe it was because I've been so stressed and I decided to take a me day, and I just found the theater really relaxing? I was in one of those theaters with the recliners.

Oooh sweet.

I wasn't sure how easy it would be to follow for anyone not familiar with the lore but it's cool that it seemed to work. I mean I enjoyed it because I got to nerd-out for like 2 hours.

I had trouble following it in the beginning, but I got into it pretty quickly. Being aware of general fantasy tropes and terms helped.

Yeah the general story of WoW hits a fair few fantasy tropes, but I'm glad you had a fun-time. :)

Batman v Superman

I saw it on Monday, and it's not as bad as you think. It's soooooo much worse.

If you haven't (and got about an hour to spare), you should listen to We Hate Movies review.

Supposedly the special edition is the new Daredevil, where the directors cut actaully fixes a lot of the problems. Seems the studio cuts were responsible for a lot of the jarring transistions and plot holes, though i'm hearing this second hand.

I fail to see how adding more stuff (other than color) would improve the film.

Scott Pilgrim

[personal profile] morieris 2016-06-15 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I finally sat through and watched the entire thing...besides being a little needlessly long, it was refreshing I guess.

That movie is a hot mess and I love it anyway.

Oh my god yes. It's a hot mess, but at least it revels in being a hot mess.

I love it for the entertainment value. It's good to watch with a group of friends on a rainy day.

That movie is so flawed but it's just so fun that I don't even care. It knows what it's about and just goes for it!

Zootopia was originally a MUCH darker film

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
That was about how all predator species were forced to wear shock collars.
