No, the message was This is a bad guy. And they chose Mystique because JLaw is a big deal.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And the way they got the message of "This is a bad guy" across was "This is a guy who is big and strong and violently threatens Mystique"

I'm not saying it's the end of the world or an evil thing to do or profoundly misogynist or anything, but again: I don't think it's wrong to question the choices people make, and I don't think "He's a villain!" is a satisfactory answer there. Why is he that kind of villain, doing that kind of thing, on a billboard, depicted like that.

No one's saying it's wrong to question or critique it. They're saying it's stupid. Because the majority of people don't take movie posters that seriously.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it's completely unheard of for fandom to take things too seriously? Because the majority of people are out here looking for stories about their favorite movie characters making out?

This is fandom, of course we take shit too seriously.

Exactly.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
They couldn't have shown, say, Mystique and the Bad Guy getting ready to fight each other? Staring down eye-to-eye, fists up? It had to involve JLaw being strangled and victimized as opposed to her looking badass?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She doesn't even look victimized in that billboard. She looks bored.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
oooookay...

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's because JLaw only has the one expression.
