to be honest, when it comes to the marketing, I feel like the only one who noticed on the previews that the tagline was "This Memorial Day... only the strong will survive" and found it pretty uncomfortable and crass.

Regarding the secret, I think it would be helpful to consider other movie promo materials where characters are imperiled, and compare the ways men are imperiled vs. women, and see if there's a difference. For me, one of the things that was a little weird about this image is that Mystique is not a tank, she's more of a subtle fighter, usually (iirc?). For a mega-beat-down image, I'd expect them to put Apocalypse up against their strongest physical fighter, or like, Professor X or something.
