I wouldn't really think of the throat-slitting as more disturbing((burning alive scares me shitless, since it's slow and painful)), but damn, it WAS hot.

Seeing it live was just.... ♥

Jealous. ;__; I'll probably never get to see the revival live. Did you see the Cerveris/Lupone one?

I just found the lead-up to the killing creepier somehow. Plus the fact that the stabbity-stabbity seems to involve more rage and sustained violence than just chucking someone in an oven. The graphic burning in the movie still freaks me out, but... in a different way, I guess.

I did! Totally amazing.

You have a point there. I was actually looking forward to see the throat-slitting over the chucking-in-the-oven in the movie, but I think the original point of the oven was to set her apart from his other victims, or something like that.

Still too lazy to change journals.

I'll always prefer the burning, I think it's more symbolic, imo. Burning in the fires she started, so to speak. But I totally agree with the hotness level of it.

Granted..I really really REALLY hate the version with Cerveris/Lupone. Like, really really hate it. I guess it's just my style. Granted, Lupone is one of my favorite Lovett's, but...the whole environment of it was very off to me.

Now that I'm on a tangent, I guess I'll just keep going. I think I'm probably the only Sweeney fan in existence that DOESN'T LIKE ANGELA. She's an amazing woman, an amazing actor but...I can't get past the whole "MRS. POTTS" deal, and I just...don't like how she portrays Lovett. At all. I could never see her Lovett being in love with Sweeney. I can't. Her "By the Sea" was very out of place to me, like it came out of nowhere. After seeing Patti's and Helena's versions, I can honestly say she's my least favorite.

[/end rant]

Hurr, me too.

Really? I thought it was good. the only thing that really irked me was that Cerveris was... bald. I dunno why it irked me, it just did.

I totally agree with that. *__* Those are pretty much my reasons why she's my least favorite of the three. That, and her voice((In general, not just because it sounds like Mrs. Potts)), when compared to Helena and Patti, sounds so out of place.

That REALLY bothered me, rofl. And the fact that Patti had black hair. RED PLZ. PLZPLZPLZ.

The acting was good, yes, but....ffff, I don't know. I guess I'm stuck in my bubble of what I'm used to. The orchestra was EXTREMELY limited, which always bothers me with anything theatrical. If your going to have a pit or an orchestra of some sort, there needs to be balance, and it needs to fit the piece...Cerveris/Lupone's version sounded WAAAAY too "jazz" for my tastes. Not operatic enough (and I am a firm believer in ST being an opera...sorry Sondhiem, too much singing, not enough chat).

Lansbury's is my least favorite Lovett too, even though I do like Angela Lansbury in general. But it's like you said -- the way she played it, she didn't seem to care all that much about Sweeney, and was much more clearly self-serving and opportunistic. In the end, when you find out she lied to him, it's not really shocking, it's more of "Well, duh." Plus there are too many times when she seems crazier than Sweeney, and I kinda prefer it the other way around. :P

I must agree whole-heartily.

...ok, first of all, I lol'd at your icon.

And yeah, I definately agree with that. It just seemed...unfounded to me, I guess. Because, like I said, her love for Sweeney totally...wasn't there. xD Patti definately portrays it, especially in the concert version with George. I think she does that one solo in Final Scene ("Yes I lied" etc etc) perfectly. You can just see and hear the emotion. And of course, there's Helena (who's love for Sweeney is GLARING YOU RIGHT IN THE FACE)

That's probably my favorite version (the concert), followed closely by Tim Burton's. It was different, but it was a good kind of different. xD
