8. Yaoi anime must be taken with a grain of salt, simply because all of it is bad. So we love it because it is bad. Anyone who claims to love it for other reasons is clearly missing the point.

16. I feel Scientology's demise. Hopefully people will start waking up soon.

18. I agree.

20. But isn't ba/va pretty much interchangeable since it's a sound that sort of doesn't exist in standard Japanese? Like Vegeta/Bejita etc and so forth.

26. Yes, that was a very creepy commercial. And I'd use a pseudonym anyway because my name is very plain and ridiculously common.

29. Oh wow. I bet they ran out to get restraining orders after that.

38. I don't mind having them up there. It saves me space on my hard drive and if it's really awesome, I can go download it. I do think it sucks when they don't mention who made it though.

39. Wow, that sucks. But hey, it's not for everyone. Just make sure you have some backup plan so you don't get stuck doing something menial and horrid for the rest of your life.

47. There's a dark gritty version of CCS? O_o

51. Updating is a very important part of webcomics. If they never freaking update, I don't care how pretty it is, I'm less and less likely to come back with each lack of update. But I will say this, you'd better have a good story or all the updating in the world won't bring me around to read.

64. I run into more fanbrats squeeing idiotically over yaoi while being completely squicked out by yuri. I always think that it's because they're uncomfortable with their sexuality and gender. Reading yuri doesn't make you gay. Girl love is just as beautiful as boy love and straight love and all that.

67. Yeah, there's a lot of dicks mixed in there, just like real life. Only...a little more since people often find it easier to be assholes on the internet.

Yes indeed, that's rather what i was thinking myself.

Yeah. I did take some Japanese (which I was horrible at btw so my opinion on the matter is crap XD) but I got the impression that the ba and fa and such were things that later got glued into the system to try and line up with western languages. Japanese is a hard language to argue proper spellings and such with because of that vowel system they use. It can be up to interpretation, especially with made up names.

But again, this is just my impression/opinion.

IAWTC on all points. I've dropped so many beautiful webcomics because I got sick of waiting weeks or even months for a new page.

It's hard to stick with something when they update so rarely you just forget it exists. I can understand a few bumps in the road, but consistent lack of updates...just quit. Or save up all your pages and post them in one big comics post when you complete the damn story, if you ever do.

I actually agree with you. I wasn't just talking about yaoi, but slash in general. I know from personal experience, because I used to be one of those 'I like yaoi but yuri doesn't float my boat' people, mainly because I was afraid that I was gay and not because it didn't 'float my boat'.

Well, Japanese is often hard to transcribe. In this particular case though, it can only be a "v" sound. There is another way to write b/v, where it can be transcribed as either.

There's dark and gritty fanworks of EVERYTHING. Unless it's a dark and gritty series, in which case you will surely find pure and fluffy variations in their place.

39's OP

(Anonymous) 2008-03-28 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really have any distinct plans, and I don't want to, because not having long-term plans is liberating for me. I want to eventually be a writer, maybe. But I don't really care what I do for work, as long as I'm happy at home.

If you want to be a writer, you're eventually going to care what you do for a job, because you'll want to have some sanity and energy left to write with. For me, this means I do more writing when I have the sort of mindless job that never pays well, which is kind of teh suck but at least leaves me sane. But everyone is different. Don't be afraid to try a lot of different stuff. You may find you're energized by lots of mental activity, in which case I think you're really lucky.

Best of luck to you and hang in there!
