Hear, hear! I upload my AMVs to Youtube, but I also upload them to generic file sharing sites and keep links in the video descriptions. I'm fine with downloading, because the compression on Youtube is pretty blech, but AMV.org? Oi, so pretentious! I won't deny that there are lots of very talented editors there (some of my favorites, actually), but most of the user base is very "you don't want to be like those other AMVers who complete projects in less than 100 hours, do you? Do you, weakling?" I refer to the tutorials a lot, but that's about it these days--most members are so fixated with making editing a ~*science*~ that I feel like they've missed the fun part entirely.

I'm all for helping people improve through concrit (I've been in the market for a 'second second opinion' beta for ages), but the constructive part is so critical there. I'll stick to Youtube, kthx D:

Definite agreement about Youtubers who upload other people's AMVs, though (I've had my stuff swiped like that before. Mislabeled and uncredited, too! I was tempted to add a watermark after that >_>). I saw one user with one video, an extremely popular AMV that wasn't theirs (and they said as much in the video description).
...over eighty subscribers. Yeah.

It's not that I have a huge problem with downloading myself, it's just that I know a lot of people who do, so I can see why it might be an issue. And also, my videos HAVE been stolen as a direct result of uploading them on the org, so I'm a little reluctant. In some cases, they were glad to credit me once I asked, but in another case I was never credited. (I said in the comments that I was the original creator, but that's about it, and it probably wound up being deleted.)

And yeah, on the org it seems to be mostly about insulting people rather than helping them, and there's a big difference between the two. I've met some people who are lovely and have given actual help, but it's not common. Youtube is more about enjoyment than craft, and the org comes across as really pretentious, like you said. And 'you suck' is not crit, no matter what anyone says, if you don't explain yourself. And yeah, for me, video editing isn't my major thing--writing is. I like making AMVs and I try to do my best, but I am not going to spend 100 hours on a video--that would drive me crazy, and I don't have time, and it's not my primary medium of expression.
