The problem is that everything is considered subtext in fandom. Everything.

These two people are good friends. Logically we can conclude that they want to have sex. These two people hate each other. No, wait, it's just sexual tension. These two people have never met before. But they would totally do each other on sight if they did.

Like I said. Porn? Fine. Making horribly contrived explanations for porn? Why.

THEY HATE EACH OTHER AND ARE BOTH MALE THUS THEY HAVE HOT BUTTSEX ALL THE TIME IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE

for the record though, while i don't get off to 'slash' i'm not offended by it (unless it's shota)

sometimes subtext can be at least a little plausible, though, roz, you must admit

even though the thought of them doinking isn't my thing, phoenix and edgeworth por ejemplo are both pretty gay for each other

ADMIT IT

DON'T YOU HAVE SOME GHOSTBUSTER SEQUELS TO BE WATCHING

I'm not offended by it either, really. It just makes me go "Wait what" sometimes.

That's why I only specified at least 86% of the time, you see. I didn't say that it was all bullshit, just most of it.

haha win

bonus points if they're not masculine in the slightest or are perhaps in a canon relationship with a female (IN DENIAL)

On an unrelated note, I don't think I've mentioned this before, but that icon is very A+++.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, well part of it is the fact that you could probably slap EarthBound/Mother on anything and I'd like it, but the two of them just fit together so adorably.

Gurrenbound is awesome.

MADE OF WIN!!!

Oh, we should just make that a subsection of Rule 34.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm...you'd better make that "two guys" or, sometimes, if we're really lucky, "a guy and a girl".

Those two chicks over there going down on each other? JUST FRIENDS!
pikabot: (OBJECTION)

Re: 64.

[personal profile] pikabot 2008-03-27 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
...and? How can you determine which interpretations are more valid than others? Who's the final arbitrator there? Who gets to make those decisions?

What seems obvious to you may or may not be obvious to someone with a different perspective.

I'm also curious as to why same-sex pirings are being singled out here. What you're describing is exactly as rampant in het pairings.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry

but from my experience as an anime fan it isn't

rest assured i don't discriminate but i've come across far less ranting and fangirl slobbering gibberish over het pairings compared to the mounds of "subtext" found for yaoi ones

and not to accuse you, but slash/yaoi fangirls seem to be very defensive and love to claim homophobia towards any naysayers

i probably opened up a can of worms there that has been covered extensively here on the lovely f!s but again, that's just my experience
pikabot: (FUCK YEAH SEAKING)

Re: 64.

[personal profile] pikabot 2008-03-27 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I'm far from a slash/yaoi fangirl. Wrong gender, for one thing. I don't like slash, for another. I just dislike the notion that there's only one valid interpretation of a character's feelings.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, forgive me of any implications

i mean, i'm not saying that suggesting a character is attracted to another is always wrong if it isn't explicitly stated in canon

but you must admit fans frequently take it way too far and stretch theories far past believability

especially those dastardly yaoi fangirls everyone hates
pikabot: (Frostbite)

Re: 64.

[personal profile] pikabot 2008-03-27 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
There's definitely a large number of fangirls who seem to be realy reaching. Those are the theories based on an incomplete or just plain WRONG understanding of canon. (Avatar fandom, I'm looking at YOU!)

Also, the amount of slash vs. het in a given fandom fluctuates massively. FMA (anime) fandom might be slash-dominated, but Avatar belongs almost exclusively to the het, for instance. If there's a trend to which ones get what proportion, I think that it's relative to the number of strong female characters (This would be why Naruto fandom is slash-consumed, but One Piece fandom is better balanced). Which is ironic, as the first thing these fangirls do is ignore said strong character's motivations, strengths, and personality so that they can brainlessly hook them up with the angsty male lead, using them as a surrogate because they can't actually bump uglies with a fictional character.

(Which is not to say that there's anything inherently wrong with those ships, just the manner in which it's often portrayed)

Re: 64.

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
eh

the only fandoms i've experienced in more than a passing fashion are one piece and house

OP is silly enough that it isn't common but you should see the shit posted in house comms

so much bitching and catfighting and creepy essays on who is having buttsex with whom

Re: 64.

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Reading comprehension.

This is why I've been referring to porn in general, not just slash. I'm not singling out anything, although it's not like I ever actually see het. I'm sure that it's running wild with just as many crackpot theories and such as any other type of fandom porn.

[personal profile] pikabot 2008-03-27 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. Well, you should probably specify that when what you're saying is in response to something that is specifically dealing with same-sex pairings. :p
