What the hell do you know about Taylor Swift besides she makes music you don't like

I know when it comes to romance, her last name says it all.

It's getting to the point where I just blame the guy for getting with her.

But that is of course, my opinion, and I expect absolutely nothing to change.

Why is that a bad thing, necessarily

If she does in fact like to kiss a lot of boys, how does it follow that Tom Hiddleston is better than her

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said it was a bad thing, although the ones who get involved with her might not agree. Of course, I'm going by the supposed wank that's coming from her current ex.

I honestly don't know if Tom Hiddleston is better than her based on the fact that he doesn't kiss a lot of boys, but let's just say for not knowing much about TS, I still know way too much about her love life, more so than TH's. There's nothing wrong with kissing a lot of boys, of course, as long as the boys are fine with the fact that the one they're with likes to kiss a lot of boys.

I know she has a reputation for singing about the people she dates, and the songs put all the blame for the relationship's demise on the other person.

Also, she has a stupid way of carrying her cat.

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it really that stupid?

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

Lol, she was going to the airport. The cat hates it's cage, like most cats do, so she didn't want to put it in the cage until she had to. Literally all she had to do was get the cat from her apartment into the taxi/limo/SUV/whatever. She wasn't going for a walk with it on her arm like that or whatever people think. I don't think she really cared exactly how she was carrying it for those, oh, fifteen seconds.

The music video where she holds it in a stupid way says otherwise.

Which is a shame because, even if I hate the music, it's otherwise a neat music video.

Lol, okay, maybe you're right. I cannot recall the music video in which this occurs, but let's say you're right. let's say Taylor Swift carries her cat over her arm rather than...what, with both arms? Is that what we're thinking the "normal" way to carry a cat is?

I feel like the inherent ridiculousness of this conversation ought to make its own point. Which is: how is this even worth discussing, let alone judging someone for?

The only discussing it is you. I'm just saying it's a stupid way to carry a cat. It's not a discussion point for me. It's a fact.

Actually since her second or third album she's had quite a few songs about how break ups are her fault.

I lost track of which thread I was in. I may have just a bit too much T-Swift knowledge.

That's what I was thinking too. Not that I'm particularly invested in whether Taylor Swift constitutes good taste or not. I'm just having a thing today where I keep going "I don't think the people you're arguing with are right, but I do think that you're wrong".

Yep. And also, she writes about break ups! So does literally everyone else in pop music, because Pop music is almost entirely break ups and love songs, but T-Swift is the only one who gets any flak for it. Except maybe Adele, but that's because she's kind of polarized into Meme status.

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the flak she gets bugs me, too. Plenty of musicians of ALL genres have made entire careers out of writing "women done me wrong" songs, or having one-night stands, or making entire albums about breakups, and it's not hard to tell who their songs are about, either (or speculate-look at how long have people obsessed over who "You're So Vain" is supposed to be about, for instance).

So why is it such a BIG DEAL to some people that Taylor does the exact same thing? She's dating around, just like many other twenty-somethings do, and she's writing about it. Big whoop.

How many pop songs do you know that aren't about breakups or love? And how many of THOSE are on the charts? Pop music is built around romance, and while there are of course songs about other topics, at the end of the day, most of what we listen to is about love, because we relate to it! And yet, like you said, Taylor gets so much flak.

Thank you for pointing out two of the things wrong with mainstream music today.
