Re: God of War - Follow up from yesterday

Even if something was justified in a hunter gatherer culture, the stories that we tell about it have to also be looked at in the light of contemporary culture. Especially when - and I think this might be the case in the video game about a guy with a goatee who beats up Greek gods - verisimilitude is not a central feature of the work in question.
Second, to me, one of the elements of toxic masculinity is that maleness is defined in such a way that violence is a necessary part of it. So having a violent rite of passage, especially with a character who is badass hence admirable, could play into that idea. Again I haven't seen it so I don't know how it lines up with the specific presentation. Just an idea.
