quality facial hair through makeup is not a budget thing, it's a technique thing. A $5 bottle of spirit glue and a $2 braid of crepe hair is all you need. If your beard application technique sucks, you can't blame the budget.

well, I guess you can blame the budget for hiring the makeup artist.

Pics of the low budget examples, please?

NAYRT - You're not going to get any, because cosplaying isn't the same thing as special effects make up for television. Only a deluded cosplayer thinks that a make up job that will pass at a con is as good as a make up job that needs to function for hours perfectly, under hot lights and adverse conditions and - most important of all! - pass muster in camera close ups.

So yeah. That "$5 bottle of spirit glue and a $2 braid of crepe hair" will work for cosplay, but not TV. Anyone who tells you differently is talking out their ass.

Frankly, and I say this as someone in the industry, cosplayers care about the look of something more than a lot of the hair and makeup people. These same film hair people will spend $70 on a wiggy-looking wig, because it's something they've always done, not realizing that a $30 wig can look better. I have seen some REALLY SHITTY professional hair and makeup jobs on high budget productions.

And yes, the $5 bottle of spirit gum and $2 braid of hair crepe has looked better than some of these, again, on high-budget productions.
