Re: God of War - Follow up from yesterday

The trailer actually seems like it's critiquing toxic masculinity towards the end, to me. When the kid kills the deer, Kratos's stereotypical "manly" stoicism towards the kid came across as negative - the kid looks for support and finds none so he retreats because he's already absorbing Kratos's example that feelings are bad, yet Kratos shows regret and tries to reach out but can't make himself follow through. They fail to connect on a human level and everything about how it's framed suggests that's supposed to be sad. It was the first GoW trailer that actually made me want to play something in the series for the story and characters, not for the hyperviolent lols.

There's no question the GoW series as a whole is about as textbook dudebro bullshit as you can get, but this trailer didn't strike me as an example of that. I'd be both surprised and pleased if this game's story tries to dig a little deeper than "kill all the things because my fridged family".
