Lol not gonna lie this entire thing sound exactly like what OP was talking about with rabid Orphan Black fans. The only thing you didn't do was claim it was great<M/i>. But yeah, as people mentioned below, when there are $10 cosplay techniques that work better, you did a bad job, no one gives a shit about the budget. I had to apply a fake beard for a drag king shoot under sweltering hot lights, and it looked nothing like this (i.e. it looked good).

Also, I've worked in special effects (mostly small budget shows and theater productions too, waaaay smaller than Orphan Black) and I'm a little confused by the claim that they couldn't have done a baldcap. Give Tony a boy-band haircut where he doesn't wear it like a buzz cut, and the bald cap would have worked perfectly for that. Bald caps only really become an issue when a) there is a lot of hair (yeah, one time I tried putting a bald cap on an actress who had thick dreadlocks halfway down her back...wasn't working, She ended up looking like Megamind with a giant fucking head), and b)covering up the bald cap always looks better. So giving the actress a shortish men's hairstyle would have been just fine.

This is absolutely disastrous from a talent standpoint, and I can't believe people are trying to defend it. Whether or not Maslany actually pulled off the physicality of the role, there is zero excuse for not buying a $50 binder and someone who actually knew what they were doing in the makeup department. Maslany sucked at the physical aspect if you want my opinion on it, but a lot of that could have been covered up by a decent makeup job.

Instead, it enhances the uncanny valley look and makes this a train wreck.

If that's what you think a rabid fan sounds like, I'm not sure you've ever met a rabid fan of anything.
