You're not alone in disliking the pairing, despite what tumblr would likely have you believe. I used to watch the show and am "one of those" who not only never shipped it, but still hasn't gotten past the brunette (Regina) having tried to kill the blonde (Emma) minutes after the blonde's birth, and also being a rapist (who killed her rape victim when he broke up with her), and murderer of children, and convincing her adopted son that he was crazy when he wasn't, etc. There are a lot of things not to like the brunette character - who kind of lives up to her Evil Queen title.

Really, there are a lot reasons not to like most of the characters of this show, good and evil alike. But Regina's reasons kind of outnumber the rest, save for Rumpel's. (I might add the Wicked Witch, but I quit watching before she showed up.)

See, I can even get into hate-shipping or even the female version of the Draco-in-leather pants thing...but what bugs me is that in-world, a lot of the shit she did, just has no relevant repercussions. And that shit's being romanticized. Like nope, she's a murderer and a rapist - and I'm cool with people having that as a kink, but I'm slightly disturbed by just not admitting that's what it is.

AYRT - I agree about having issues with people (especially the showrunners) not calling Regina what she is, and others romanticizing it. I've had more than enough favorite characters who have been villains and have done awful things but unlike a lot of fans I see for this show whether with Regina or Rumple or Hook is that not only do I not minimize it, I wish others didn't.

I think the thing a lot of people don't realize is that you can have a favorite character who does horrible things, but that doesn't mean you have to excuse those things and you definitely shouldn't be erasing them. You like a villain? That's fine. Just don't pretend the horrible acts they've committed are anything less than what they are.

(Your Bucky icon makes me feel I need to add that this goes only for characters who are in complete control of their actions)

Exactly! I vaguely recall this bugging me too in the heyday of Loki craze. Like, he's a great character, he's hot, I get it - but, millions of people have daddy issues WITHOUT killing people.

(And meh, Bucky acknowledges he did some fucked up shit, even if it wasn't his fault, so he's more self-aware than most)

I blame Cora Mills on a lot of this. Had she had her heart back, she would have raised Regina with a lot of love. For plot purposes, she sees her own heart as a weakness and wanted Regina to just go up the ranks, due to a squabble with Snow's mom in the past. By killing Snow's mom with that candle thing, it was the only foolproof plan to get her own daughter, Regina to be on top of the line.

It just runs in the family I suppose, especially their taste in clothing.
