Positivity thread

I know the world seems kind of like it's imploding right now. Let's all remember that not everyone is a terrorist or xenophobe or the type of person who lets hate and fear dictate their politics.

Tell me about the last nice thing you did for a stranger, or the last nice thing a stranger did for you.

Here's mine, though it isn't technically "mine": I went out with my mom for bubble tea last night at a new Taiwanese place that just opened up, and my mom was about to order plum tea. The person behind the counter felt obligated to tell us that it wasn't fresh plum tea, but rather dried plum tea. My mom (who came to visit me in Japan and thus has had umeboshi and liked it) didn't know if she would like the dried version, so the person behind the counter gave her a fresh one to try for free. This was pretty nice, since I'm sure my mom wouldn't have wound up liking a slightly salty bubble tea, and saved us from wasting some money on it.

The background: some asshole dented my car while it was parked (I think it was on Monday or Tuesday, not sure if it was while I was at work or parked at home, but it wasn't while I was driving because I think I'd have noticed the impact) and didn't leave their info. The plastic plate by the rear right wheel came loose.

The nice part: my parents let me wrap a gift for a friend at their house yesterday (which is also a nice thing) and while I was doing it my dad went outside and banged the dent out under the plate. :)

Well, that's a very nice resolution to a somewhat shitty stranger interaction, I guess. I'll take it!

I complimented a lady on FS train on her hair and makeup today. She was styled to the dime! Looking awesome lady! She smiled at me 😊

Yesterday everyone was really nice in reassuring me it wasn't my fault. My dog had a go at another dog that had come up and was being rude, no owner in sight. I felt bad and frustrated and nearly everyone came over to reassure me. They're all really nice, although it feels like we are the ones who keep getting blindsided by strange dogs.

So that was nice and I felt a bit better.

Why did 'the' autocorrect to FS???

:/ Sorry to hear about the dog situation. Totally wasn't your fault if a dog decided to have a go at yours though. That's the fault of someone else's poor ownership.

I had to legit pull another dog off my mom's little Dachshund even though they were present and my mom was there because they just weren't strong enough to handle their own dog. They also didn't notice when their dog perked right up into aggression as soon as it spotted my mom's dog. I put myself between the two animals just in case, and it was lucky I did because I was able to catch the harness and put the unfamiliar dog right back on its haunches before anyone got hurt.

I realize not everyone is an animal behaviourist, but in those moments I think dog behaviour classes ought to be mandatory.

tl;dr you are a good owner but not everyone else is. Don't beat yourself up over problems you didn't cause.

reminds me of when a neighbor with a small fluffball dog came up to me while I was walking my parents' greyhounds after I specifically told them not to. one of them (who has better leash manners) just stood there all tense, but the other - the large, tall male - went straight for fluffball's neck. lucky I was able to pull him off before any damage was done.

then she was all "oh, I think I'll just walk over here now~" Yeah. Damn right you will. When someone warns you not to go near their dogs with your dog you better listen. Yikes.

It just sucks cause I know my dog is likely to get the blame cause she's big and kinda scary looking. But she doesn't know that, she was being threatened by another dog! And we work really hard at teaching her to ignore those dogs. But when it came for round 2 it was too much :(

I hope they think about training or yknow don't let their dog run around randomly in multiuse areas. Go to a dog park ffs. Don't get my dog in trouble with yours being naughty.

If your dog gets any blame, I'd think about taking those assholes to court. Seriously. Letting your dog off leash in areas where that's allowed is one thing, doing it in a multi-use area is quite another. And then attempting to say it was someone else's fault. Nah, tho.

Especially if you had your dog leashed properly.

Leashed properly in a drop with a place command! Thankfully all the other witnesses are dog trainers or advanced level 4 clients.

It was just upsetting :(

:/

If only there was an instant karma button for all of life's run ins with assholes, amirite? Well... at least eventually karma will catch up with them anyway.

Everything's going to be fine.

My flight into Des Moines was delayed just enough that I missed the shuttle home, and a kind lady who turned out to be a neighbor gave me a ride.
