I wish there was a way to cut off the tags past a certain point. :(

Log in to your AO3 account and go to "My Preferences". There's a ticky box a little way down the page to "Hide additional tags". You can still show the tags on a fic-by-fic basis.

A bit further down that page you can choose a site skin to tailor it still further to your preferences.

I think there should be a limit to the number of tags people are allowed to use per fic.
