Right, cause I've never clicked on a fic that got a lot of kudos to find an unreadable disaster.

DA I've found this also. I think for me it's usually an age thing though. I'm about 10 years older than most fans and my tastes have definitely changed.

You could also probably find some really shitty fic that has been beta'd.

What a shame that once you click on a fic, your computer remains locked on that page until you have read the entire story. I hope AO3 fixes that design flaw soon.

Try kudos/hits ratio thingy, it usually reflects quality A LOT better than just kudos.

If you're in a large-ish fandom, try sorting by bookmarks. I've found them a much more reliable indicator of quality.
