Dude's defining trait is that he is literally the single humblest elf in all of LOTR and the Hobbit. Just about every other elf has some kind of superiority or amusement going on when they interact with non-elves, even if they're also very kind and thoughtful and loving like Elrond and Galadriel. Glorfindel is the only elf who immediately treats the hobbits as his equals or even superiors.
