A lot of it does. I remember all sorts of fics featuring Snape Manor and how he was the heir to an ancient wizard family, back before the later books came out. Unfortunately I think a lot of the fancy!Snape stuff stuck around even after the reveals about his past, even when it didn't make much sense with what we learned about him.
