God I am so tired of people who act like this is in any way true.

I have been a gamer my entire life. I am not shy about showing my face. I have NEVER been harassed or treated differently for being female.

Has some bad shit happened? Yes. But it's not a crime to game while female, jesus fucking christ.

You are not the only female gamer and your experiences aren't everyone's. Come on, people act like there's truth to it because there is. When a lot of people raise their hands and say "I have been treated badly for being female while gaming" you should probably assume there's some truth to it rather than lots and lots of people are just making it up for...reasons?...just because you have been more fortunate.

I'd rather just assume everyone on the internet is lying. That way you can't get duped.

There is very little truth that female gamers get harassed more than male gamers, though. Just because male gamers usually don't complain about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. From my experiences, they get the exact same amount of hate, if not more, than female gamers, so that whole "woe is me, I'm a woman who can't game unharassed while men can" is just wrong.

I think there are specific types of harassment that female gamers get from specific groups, and I think it's true that fewer people will take you seriously if you're female and trying to run a YouTube channel because they'll fixate on your looks and not really listen to what you're saying.

Nostalgia Chick would like a word with you.

The ones who don't get taken seriously are the little piss-bitches who are all "I'm a GURL gamer" as if that's some kind of fucking accomplishment on its own.

She's the hot chick with the pigtails, right?

Re: Well, think about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice try, but not always pigtails.

Plenty of people take her seriously because she's hilarious and on point.

Plenty of people have also told her that they've got better ideas about what she should be using her mouth for, but I'm sure that happens to AVGN all the time.

Re: Well, think about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, actually, it does. I've seen way more people tell AVGN he needs to go eat donkey balls and get the fuck off Youtube because he sucks at what he does than have propositioned Nostalgia Chick.

Do you really not see a difference between telling someone to go eat a bag of salted dicks and telling them you want to pin them down and fuck their face? What a strange world you live in.

Re: Well, think about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really, nope. You're still telling them to eat dick so they'll shut up.

At the risk of burning out your brain cell, let's try a thought exercise. Which scenario is more likely: Internet reviewer gets physically assaulted, or internet reviewer decides to teabag an ungulate because some neckbeard told him to?

Re: Well, think about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither. But do tell me about all those internet reviewers who got physically assaulted after a troll made a threat over the internet.

NAYRT

probably not going to be assaulted by the person who made the threat, given long distances and all, but come on, which one actually happens IRL? Which one is connected to real events that actually happen?

why are people so resistant to recognizing this?

Re: Well, think about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Both of those scenarios are equally preposterous. Thanks for playing.

DA

There are death threats and the occsional rape threats as well but anyway: Both are baseless, OTT internet threats.

They get taken even less seriously, yeah, but come on the internet does not treat female and male gamers/YouTubers the same. I want to live in this magical egalitarian world you seem to see...

Re: Well, think about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I feel like people who think like this are usually massively sheltered babies who never actually ventured into the world of gaming and take all their assumptions from second or third hand accounts that are usually huge exagerations. Sure, if you think being called a cheater or rude names accounts to harassment or think threats of any kind are real, you might not be cut out for some corners in the gaming world. But pretending like only women get that treatment is naive to the max.

Just about the only times I've seen female gamers targeted for being female was when they made a huge, conceited deal out of their gender and expected to get catered to/special treatment because of it. And then they got all huffy that people told them in no uncertain terms to fuck off.

Especially when they go the "I'm a GURL gamer, you sexist pigs" and then act surprised that they get hate - it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
