That doesn't mean anything. They're not actual Republicans. They're Aaron Sorkin characters.

Does that mean they're not made to use the same talking points as the characters Sorkin agrees with? I haven't seen anything by Sorkin since The American President, but I could see why viewers might favor the characters who aren't mouthpieces.

They still have the same approach to politics that any other Sorkin character has, except once in a while instead of condescendingly demolishing a strawman of the right, they'll demolish a strawman of the left instead. The problem with Sorkin isn't so much the specific content of the points, it's the way that he has his characters deliver the talking points. Although it does make it harder to bear if you don't agree with the politics.
