OP here. Thank god someone else said it first, because that's the opinion I have as well.

Props to their dedication and time they put into it, but a lot of the time they aren't... very good.

Oh yes, sure. If people have fun doing this, all power to them. As long as I don't have to listen to it. Doesn't help that most people have really terrible recording equipment as well.
It's much the same for me as cosplay, especially those cosplay performances at cons. It's lovely that people invest so much time and energy in this hobby of theirs, but I always find it massively cringey.
