Craigslist is not a great idea, really. You run the risk of getting a sick/uncared for animal, which can result in vet bills or potential early death of your pet.

Is your mom stable enough to leave alone for any length of time? You could try volunteering at a shelter for a few hours at a time and get your kitty cuddling fix in while having some peaceful time away from home (which could also help your emotional health)
