That's not where "pegging" comes from, though. "Pegging" is a (probably not true) story that cabin boys would sit on wooden pegs to stretch out their buttholes. So when Dan Savage was looking for a word where men were penetrated with a dildo, readers offered "pegging" and that's where it became popularised. The tent peg story is Anne McCaffrey's totally true story where a male friend of hers was forcibly penetrated with a tent peg and it instantly turned him gay.
