diva cup anon again

(Anonymous) 2016-06-29 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hey I'm back and I'm here to vent about my diva cup try 2 (second comment for length and tmi)

Re: diva cup anon again

So I am the anon who last month was trying menstrual cups for the first time. I have a new Diva Cup this month with the full stem on and that helps a lot. I apparently have a wazoo high cervix cause everyone says the diva cup is one of the longest cups and most people need to trim it, but with the full stem it still is fully inside me and I need to reach in a little to get to it, but its waaay easier to pull out and I have discovered the punch down method works way better for getting in.

However, I am still having trouble getting it to open and seal. Spinning it does nothing. It will just keep spinning and never open. I don't know what I am doing wrong :/ The only thing I have kinda gotten to work sometimes is to stick a finger in myself and run it around the cup until it pops open (something I read online), which is uncomfortable and sometimes takes a few tries. And occasionally it will still leak - not really badly but a little, which wouldn't bother me but everyone says it shouldn't leak at all and that means its not sealed? I just can't figure out what I could do differently...

I wasn't there for the last thread so forgive me if you've already had this discussion, but maybe try a different fold? Punch-down would never open and seal for me, but the origami fold would. These days I can use the 7-fold without issue, but origami was good while I got used to wearing a cup at all.

As far as leaking goes, someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I think tiny leaks aren't necessarily the end of the world? I sometimes find tiny bits of red on my liner, but I've never had a breach that concerned me. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I have been lucky.

C and 7 don't work for me at all, I haven't tried origami, but I worry I would have trouble holding it during insertion (I think i have slight carpal tunnel cause certain things strain my wrists in painful ways, which I am having to work around. I might try it though.

And as for the leaks, like I said it wouldn't bother me but so many people I know/online act like it should NEVER leak unless its literally overflowing or you're doing it wrong and I'm just like???? what am I doing it wrong then? idk. the way people talk about cups is weird and it makes me weirdly insecure about them (which is basically all you missed on last months thread lmao).

nayrt

I've never used a cup, but people can be weirdly evangelical about menstral products and I tend to take what people say about them with a grain of salt. I'd be surprised if No Leaks Ever was 100% true for everyone 100% of the time.

yeah, the weird evangelical-ness has really confused my experience :/ Like, I am mainly using the cup to save money and effort, its hardly the life changing event people make it out to be

When I used the punch-down fold on my Diva Cup, I had to sort of push on the fold from outside the cup with two fingers until it popped open. That was the only reliable way I could get it to open and seal.

I will try that!

I use the origami fold, and it does pop out pretty easily for me. Like the other anon said, sometimes it helps if you push on the fold to help it pop open. If you want to try the origami fold, I don't think it's harder to hold during insertion than the 7 fold (IIRC).

If the cup gets too full, it can unseal and leak a bit. Usually since it stays upright, it won't leak a whole lot, and you can probably feel it leaking and empty it out. It's not supposed to leak if it seals when you've just inserted it, though because there's blood flowing out during insertion, you'll still get a bit of residual spotting even if the cup is perfectly sealed. So if it's working as well as you'd like, then I'd ignore the people who say that you should care more about the leaking (I always wear a liner anyway because I'm paranoid).

when I tried it the 7 fold was harder to hold than the punch down, idk why?

and I haven't been letting it it get that full (I have a heavy flow the first few days so I change it every six hours and its usually only half full when I do that) so idk. its only a few spots, but? idk I'm so paranoid that I am doing something wrong and messing up. :c I don't even know how to know if it is sealed all the way tbh.

Re: diva cup anon again

Yeah, I'd definitely see the punch down being easier to hold than the 7 fold - that's why it's harder to pop open the punch down. The harder it is to hold, the more resistance there is to the folded configuration (so the 7/origami folds are easier to open because they already want to "pop", but you have to counteract the "popping" during insertion).

If it's only a few spots, then it's probably just mainly from "leakage" on the sides (like, blood on the vaginal walls that isn't inside the cup when you insert it, and therefore eventually leaks out). If you like, you can test if it's sealed when you insert it. If you tug on it, you can feel the suction (which you'll have to break if you want to remove it immediately). It might be hard if you have difficulty grabbing that far up, though...

Ah that makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the explanation, I think I understand better. And hopefully my weak wrists will build up some strength over time and I can switch over to the origami fold, since it sounds like the best of both worlds?

You're welcome! Good luck building up your wrists. XD

(Anonymous) 2016-06-29 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
(ah, I think I misinterpreted your comment the first time - I thought you meant the C/7 folds didn't work for you because they didn't fit, but I think you meant they were harder to hold? in which case the origami fold would probably be difficult too, alas...)

Re: diva cup anon again

(Anonymous) 2016-06-29 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
it is both tbh - they hurt going in and were harder to hold. If I can get my weak baby wrists under control the origami fold might be a good option though, if it goes in like the punch down
