Wow. I haven't watched this season yet. But that seems like an odd move considering Piper was based on the woman who wrote the book in order to bring attention to the treatment of people in prison.

Having read the book it's pretty clear that show Piper's personality is not based on Piper Kerman's -- there are resemblances but they are pretty superficial.

Yeah that's not what happened. Piper is trying to throw the officers off her scent and it backfires. They make it very clear she's horrified by the racism. Not that she's innocent in the situation at all, but she definitely doesn't "spearhead a white pride movement."
