I think it's pretty normal to get the lump in the throat/butterflies in stomach (mild emotional stomach cramps) from reading good fic: that's one of the calling signs of good fic in my book. But I have never heard of someone actually throwing up from it before.

I have ached so much for characters I've written that I have cried from it though, when they had to live through or do especially shitty things. Tough, but that's what made the story.
