(Gravity Falls, Pinecest)

I don't know about Pinecest but I wasn't a fan of WenDip either.

OP (or anybody else), as someone not into Gravity Falls, can you explain a little more why the incest shipping seems valid and why "Wendip" (I take it this is.......uh.....Dipper and the older girl is named Wendy I guess, yes?) is shit? I'm not being sarcastic at all I'm actually really curious, this fandom seems like it has sooooo much drama for what to an outsider looks like early 2000's Cartoon Network animation style. I'm wondering what all the fuss is about!

Not big into the fandom, but have seen the show.

WinDip squicks a lot of people because Dipper has a crush on Wendy, tells her, and she directly tells him she's not at all interested in him romantically. Multiple episodes after that deal with him accepting the rejection and how important it is to accept rejection gracefully, even if it hurts. There's actually a villain character who refuses to take no for an answer and is obsessed with Mabel and it's directly contrasted with Dipper's healthy processing.

For Pinecest, I would say because Mabel is literally willing to destroy the universe rather than live apart from her brother and most of the show is about how they love eachother more than anything or anyone else and nothing will ever come between them permanently. The show has it in a 100% platonic sibling bond thing, but it's not hard to see where people might want to play around with that and make it romantic.

above anon is right on about the shipping

As for the show, it has a strong plot thread throughout the two seasons and an internally consistent mythology. There were tons of clues and secret messages of the kind that inspire a devoted fandom. I wasn't watching a lot of cartoons in early 2000s but it's got miles more plottiness and world building than anything I remember.

How does it "make sense"?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-30 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
same. I've never actively shipped incest, and don't think I could, but het incest ships with small age differences don't squick me at all?? It's not rational. River/Simon is the closest I've ever come to shipping incest.

I don't think I can see romance in this show but if I did I would always chose pinecest over wendy/dipper (Ugh).

I don't think they make sense romantically, because I think they make sense as siblings. They acted like brother and sister. They are brother and sister.

And I don't think weddip is shit. They wouldn't be good together right now, but hypothetically several years into the future and some time apart they could work.

WenDip is the story equivalent of DC comics deciding that the Waynes dying was just a memory Bruce made up to get over the trauma of them deciding they never wanted a kid and leaving him behind to go live in luxury on a caribbean island.

You're a dumbass.

Keep telling us how WenDip is the worst thing ever but twincest is understandable

the thing that bothers me the most about the Pinecest... The creator has said that Dipper was based off of him and Mabel off of his own twin sister so.. That's a whole 'nother layer of "ew?"
