I don't like it either - I never like relationships where the female character is strongly in a support role to the male character and then it turns into a romantic relationship...where she's still in a support role to the Important Man. And anything she does or wants comes second to that.

(Note: I don't mean that in real life stay-at-home parents are just the support act, I mean this in a fictional narrative. Real people can usually negotiate what they want behind the scenes, but in fiction we only get what we see.)
