IA OP. OTOH, even people with non-standard voices (I'm a female baritone) or vocal cords not up to standard can go on to make music in other genres. But I will never forget the humiliating moment of trying out for my high school musical and realizing my voice was better suited for the male lead's. No amount of practice could fix that.

It did turn out to be great for rock n roll tho. :)
