Re: Headcanon thread

I'm known as headcanons girl in my fandom now. So many headcanon posts. Mostly related to Sauron/Mairon. I headcanon him as originally being brilliant, more brilliant than most. There was a reason that Melkor chose him for lieutenant. I also headcanon him as arrogant, but also someone who thrives on praise. I think that was the trouble with his relationship with Aule: Aule saw his arrogance and withheld praise, which was actually not a good plan. Melkor flattered him and offered him power and so he fell.

I also headcanon him as slowly losing his sanity post-Melkor. This is a combination of the fact that for Tolkien evil corrupts mentally and physically, the fact that he is without Melkor who was the most important person to him and the one he worked for, and losing his fair form post-Numenor, and then losing the One Ring. By LOTR his sanity is pretty much gone.

And I headcanon him as being very much in love with Melkor. Melkor was the only other person besides himself he actually thought mattered, I think. And the feelings were mutual. He never gave up on Melkor no matter how long they were apart, so much so that he worshipped Melkor millenia later and got others to (which was partially for his own ends but also partially because he still loved him) and so much that he named the battering ram he used to break into Minas Tirith after Grond, Melkor's hammer.

And I headcanon that part of his plan all along was to rescue Melkor from the Void. That was partially why he created the Rings. To enhance his own power, to overpower the elves, to eventually conquer Valinor and then rescue Melkor. He loved being the ultimate power himself, of course, but he couldn't let go of the vision of Melkor alone in the Void.

And I do headcanon Melkor calling him Precious, which is why the Ring gets called Precious. Sappy, but I don't care. I think it is adorable.

There is no need to be rude. I never said other people have to interpret it that way. That's just how I happen to interpret things. And I don't think any of that goes against canon. The thread asked for headcanons, so I gave some of mine.
