Re: Write out a poem you have memorized

Kipling's epitaph from a statesman:
I could not dig, I dared not rob,
therefore I lied to please the mob.
now all my lies have proved false
so I must face the men I slew.
what tale shall serve me here among
my angry and defrauded young?

Checked version:
I could not dig: I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

Hmm, not bad. It is just a short verse though, but it has been on my mind with the 100th anniversary of the Somme.

thank you; I did not know this poem, it is short and powerful.
