People who are screeching about somebody else's OC just sound to me like they are yelling "YOU ARE HAVING FUN WRONG!"

It's generally fairly obvious from the summary when an OC is going to be annoying, and if an OC proves annoying later, you can always stop reading and go on to the next story.

If only OCers would tag their OC stories properly so they can be filtered out. Too many refuse to do that though, so our search returns get filled up with nonsensical OC crap that have to be manually discarded. Why do OC writers refuse to tag properly?

Maybe because nobody can agree what actually needs to be tagged as an OC?

I'm in the Supernatural fandom, and people write case fics: basically the equivalent of an episode. And just like the Monster of the Week episodes, they have Sam and Dean interacting with all kinds of people. The victim (if they survived) or their friends and family (if they didn't), local law enforcement, witnesses, locals who provide a helpful bit of history. Dean will probably try to get in at least one person's pants.

So I guess anyone who writes a case fic should list "Original Characters" in their character list. Fair enough.

Except that then you've got the opposite problem. Everything is labeled "Original Characters" and you still have no way of filtering out the ones which piss you off.

(Maybe you're in a different kind of show, where the main characters only ever interact with each other? IDK.)

Exactly.

I will never feel sorry about people who whine about wasting their time on an OC fic. You could have clicked out at any time. But you didn't. Blaming the author because you didn't click out of an OC fic is stupid and childish.

People should tag OC fics as common courtesy like you tag anything else. Also to the people who get all salty and whiny because they have to scroll past OC fics? Cry me a fucking river, crybaby. I have to scroll past one hundred thousand shipfics in my fandom and dig through 4 pages to get to one fucking genfic. It does annoy the crap out of me that I have never confronted the authors of these fics to have a pissfit.

Fanfic readers are incredibly entitled sometimes.

I have to scroll by all the fucking A/B/O to find the one fic where the characters are actually acting like themselves. It's kinda annoying, but in the grand scheme of things, not actually all that big of a deal.

I understand annoyance but I hate when people use that annoyance and their preferences to bully ,mock and belittle other people.

If I picked a fight with all shipfic writers i'd be starting shit with 3/4 of fandom.
