Tonight I learned that whiskey and triple sec work better together than I thought.

that makes sense! I was drinking whiskey sours earlier, and subbing in triple sec for the simple syrup would make total sense there. But I do think you need that citrus for balance there.

(I've now moved on to ersatz Old Fashioneds, IE, I'm using the same simple syrup instead of a sugar cube)
