It's one of the two in the first anon post.

I first shipped it before I became aware of the hatedom around the ship or that so many of my friends were opposed to it. The few instances where IRL friends became aware I shipped it, some disagreed politely, others were okay with it, and some cut ties with me over it completely with very harsh language. The last ones were bad enough that I ended up leaving a sci-fi club I was part of over the issue.

That really sucks that you had to deal with that last group of people. I do not get people who think it's worth ruining a friendship or harassing people over the fictional characters they ship.

Judging from other posts here, it sounds like there are some fan spaces for your favorite pairing (I'm not in this fandom myself, so it's interesting reading all of this from the sidelines), so hopefully you can make yourself at home in one of those spots and connect with other fans of that pairing. And if people don't like your pairing, well, that's their problem to deal with, not yours.

holy shit. really, you're better off without them, even if you're feeling the loss now.

Yeah. I mean that's horrible, but this is probably the best way of looking at it...like, chances are good that if it weren't those ships, it would have been something else. :/

Yeah pretty much this. I'm in the SW fandom but not the TFA section of the fandom, yet the batshit levels of Reylo hate are so high and loud they even permeate the far depths of the Prequel and TCW corners of the universe. And it's just like - where the fuck is this shit even coming from and why the hell is it ending up all the way over HERE? Did you haters take a wrong turn in Albuquerque or some shit? I can understand not liking a ship or not wanting to personally see or read it, but the epic-level temper tantrums the Reylo haters pitch are just new and exciting levels of absurd, especially when they're polluting the entire flipping fandom with it, and launching some pretty vicious personal attacks against people for shipping a fictional couple. The "friends" who would dissolve a friendship over shipper preferences weren't your friends to begin with, and they sound like total drama magnets who you're better off without in the first place.
