Why the fuck do people adopt/buy a single puppy and then PROCEED TO LEAVE IT BY ITSELF FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME, EVEN DURING UNGODLY HOURS OF THE NIGHT? What is the point of having a pet when you don't have the time or love to devote to it?

I know right? At least my family takes the time to give ours companionship, love, and time. And a non-human companion in the form of our easygoing Siamese cat who doesn't mind a pup playing with him--to the point where they chase EACH OTHER.

I know, it sucks. The same goes for people who buy high energy or high maintenance dogs when they live in tiny apartments with no yard and they're away work all day. They're mostly thinking of how cute and fun the puppy will be, and not how much care it will need or their own responsibility for its well being.

I know, right? It's just like the people who buy Sugar Gliders because they're cute. They don't realize that they're pretty high maintenance, need a special diet (that does NOT just consist of sugar), are active at night due to being nocturnal, etc.

People should just wait until they're sure they're ready to have a pet. It really isn't fair to the animal to have a negligent owner.

Are these Australian sugar gliders? Because I bet they're also protected. I do know people are not allowed to keep possums as pets in Australia, though they can become wildlife handlers and spend time caring for possums who live in the backyards.

In America (can't speak for other countries) they're considered "Wild" or "Exotic" so in a few places it's illegal to own them, or you need a permit to own and/or breed them. Most places it's legal though. I don't think they're considered protected though.

Because morons who want house pets think only of themselves.

Responsible pet owners understand it's all about the pet's health and welfare.

Unfortunately, responsible people who can actually afford a reasonable environment for a pet (room to exercise, properly researched diet, vet fees) are few and far between.

This is why, if I ever get the chance to have cats again, I want to get two at the same time, preferably mother and kitten or a pair of siblings. No adjustment to a strange cat, and emotional support for each other. On the other hand I don't think I'd be leaving them along for long periods (and if I'm out, Mum will probably be home), but they still have that extra support of a familiar cat.
