Did people even watch the film?

Uh, yes, hence why it's abusive. She's terrified of him for a large portion of the film, he tracks her down, mindrapes her, kills her mentor in front of her, then continues hunting her down and attempts to kill her later.

I mean I don't even care about any TFA ships, but if Reylo shippers really do think there is nothing even remotely fucked up or abusive in that ship then there is definitely some weird disconnect going on.

There isn't a relationship at the moment, and at this point in the story there shouldn't be, agreed.

Many shippers - I can't speak for all of them - do not ship Rey and Kylo as they are now, but for a potential healthier and equalized dynamic after a lot of character development on his end and atonement for his crimes, at which point it's up to Rey.

Both characters are at the beginning of their respective narrative arcs. Where their arcs take them in the next two films is up to the storywriters, but many shippers do recognize the unhealthy elements in the dynamic as it stands and draw that caveat.

It's still ridiculous to outright say it's not an abusive ship like the original anon did. Especially for reasons like "people romanticize the potential that could happen and just ignore the abuse", which is basically what you're saying and is not a good approach to relationships like these. I also think the idea of reducing Rey to some sort of prize or plot device to make Kylo "good" (a trope I see used frequently in Reylo fanworks) is offensive in so many ways. Frankly, I don't care for Kylo and think the best end for the whiny manchild is dying horribly, though it pains me to know that won't happen and he'll probably undergo a "redemption" as flimsy as Vader's. Why she should be forced to hook up with the unstable guy who murdered several innocent people including his own father for no justifiable reason (no, it has never been outright confirmed Kylo was ever groomed into doing everything he did or was abused, Pablo Hidalgo even outright said Kylo is responsible for his own actions) is baffling to me. And I say this as someone who has liked fucked up pairings before.

Honestly, I hear a lot of horror stories about Reylo shippers and arguments like this don't exactly help alleviate this poor reputation. Make no mistake, the anti-shippers are complete bullies, spend way too much time obsessing over things they hate, cannot separate reality from fiction, and are a general blight to the fandom, but it's also unnerving to see someone say Reylo isn't abusive - while gloating that those who think it is haven't seen the movie, no less.

DA .... It's not an abusive relationship. It's not. You seem to have confused two different things entirely.

An abusive relationship is one where someone uses various methods to hurt and control someone who loves them. Mother Gothel abuses Rapunzel.

So what do we have in TFA? Point out how Rey's currently dating Kylo? Point out where she says she currently loves him? In Hannibal the title character obviously abuses Will, using Will's trust in him to manipulate and hurt him. Rey doesn't trust Kylo!

Right now they're currently straight up hero/villain. You might as well say Vegeta had an abusive relationship with Goku because he attacked Earth. Or that Ronon had an abusive relationship with Starlord!

So canonly, do Rey and Kylo have happy positive interactions? No. Are they abusive? Also no.

Now lets get into fanon. It makes EVEN LESS sense to say a fan pairing 'is abusive' because it's so open ended. Can it be written abusive? Sure. I could write a fic where Finn locks Rey in a basement and tortures her and rapes her in order to keep her pregnant. Does that make Finn/Rey horrible? No.

Reylo being 'abusive' makes as much sense as the people who insist SandStorm's abusive because Finn kept forcing himself on Rey by taking her hand until she finally had to learn to stop fighting him and stop objecting to it, which shows he's willing to abuse her until she accept a behavior from him.

I don't even ship Reylo, but damn do I hate how the antis are overflowing with shit trying to moralize the fact that pairing doesn't make their panties moist.

Yes, because that's totally equivocal to pairing her with the man who doggedly pursued her, terrorized her, and tried to kill her.

Sorry, but you're nuts.

Hey! Just saying that she needs a relationship with someone to have an abusive relationship, so that pretty much leaves Han, Finn, BB-8, and Chewie.

You don't have to like hero/villain ships but stop hijacking real life horrible stuff to try to moralize your kinks. Bet you're one of the ones who says Jedi Mind Tricks are like RAEP and he RAEPED HER. Just like Obi-Wan did to that stormtrooper in ANH.

I went into the film prepared to keep an open mind re: Reylo, and be all like "okay, I could sort of see it maybe?"

Skip to two hours later and I was like "Noooooooope, not in a million years would I even concede this ship is viable." Kylo is such a petulant, vitriolic, violent asshole and the way he acts around Rey legit terrifies her.
