Uh... really, I've given up on trying to have an opinion about any pairing in FMA because all of the fans and/or people against the pairing are rabid and batshit insane - and you just don't want to cross them.
I really... Don't see the 'father figure' thing, though. and I fear for when the RoyxEd fans do and- write fic about Ed with a Daddy Complex. Scary, that...
Really, I have no excuse for my insanity except that a friend ~~tied me down and forced me to get into it~~ introduced it to me after I left the FMA fandom (the first time.)
In my defense, it's not my OTP and I don't think it's canon, want it to become canon, or enjoy it in most cases? *Really picky about the RoyxEd fic, really picky.*

I know, I know.... No one believes me.

39. What? No way. No way. Zero are my favorite characters, and with half of them gone.... That makes me sad, I almost don't even want to pick up the series, now.

Can't say Ed/Envy or any variation is my cuppa, honestly. I had a friend that tried to get me into that and Ed/Ran-Fan. She's actually the reason I've just learned to accept every pairing, and not worry about who ships what...

It's a stupid war, and FMA fandom is the worst about it, but really- I think I could hate any pairing that was all pointless fluff fic about 'true love' it 'destroys the dynamic of the characters' or whatever the OP said. Really, just- the characters are more three-dimensional than that, and if you're going to enjoy a pairing as a crack pairing a challenge to keep it IC and somehow believable- more power to you. I like the challenge, and creativity aspect.

I will honestly read anything, if it's done right.

Meh, I never really get pairing wars. They're friggin pairings, for christsakes. Why does it matter which pairing is superior - none of them are, not even the canon ones, because it's all a personal preference. So what if someone doesn't like your pairing? Suck it up and go home.

And hey, you don't like EdxEnvy? That's cool. :)

I have a friend who likes Ed/Ran-Fan. o_O I wonder if she's the same person.

I'm much more agreeable to Ed/Envy or Envy/Ed in the manga-verse, just because his attitude towards Ed is not so much personal hatred, but yeah- it's just not my thing. Pairing wars are stupid, though. Out of every one I know in the fandom, I only know two people who agree on their favorite pairing. Both of them prefer Roy/Ed to everything, although one used to (or maybe still does) prefer Maes/Roy over even Roy/Ed.

It's kind of like the sub vs. dub fights. *Laughs* Can't we all just get along?

Yes, fandom peace is very elusive, isn't it? Trouble, that one.
It's disappointing, especially in a fandom where no (or very few) pairings are actually -canon-. There really shouldn't be anyone running around with a holier than thou "My ship's better" attitude. It's all personal preference until the creator hands you proof and (at least in the anime) that makes us all equals.

I really have never seen more drama over sub vs. dub, anime vs. manga, or blatant shipwars in any fandom I've ever been in. Maybe I'm just sheltered.

It's good to see that even dying as we are, there's still some pleasant people in fandom though. Thank you, I think this may be one of the few civil discussions I've had with someone that wasn't in full 100% agreement with me.

No trouble at all ^^;; I don't really participate in FMA anymore. I wasn't in the fandom for a year before I moved onto South Park. I never really figured out what chased me away. I guess the encounters I had with various FMA fans were pleasant. All of my friends that are into FMA are still semi-sane, (and I say that with the utmost affection, guys.)

I'm glad I gave you hope of some sort? We should spread the word of the pointlessness of shipping wars, though I think trying to stop them wouldn't be very fruitful.
