45. WORD. How I long for fanfic.

66. Agreed with the first part of your secret (I've nothing against R/T fans myself, and enjoy their fanwork more than the canon relationship). That romance was just so contrived. I actually liked Tonks when she was first introduced, but her entire character was demeaned and reduced to the romance by book seven and that just completely ruined her for me.

This is partly why I find it so odd that JKR came out with Dumbledore being gay...I don't quite buy it. It seemed like a cop-out for never having dealt with the teachers' (or really, any adults') romantic and sexual relationships (of course, which brings up the issue of how being gay doesn't address why Dumbledore didn't have a partner--she pretty much implied that gay love is more likely unrequited than functional). I cannot help but feel that if JKR did indeed what to make a space for homosexuality she would have left Remus and Sirius well enough alone. If she was afraid that her popular childrens' book could not have explicit homosexual themes, why not leave the subtext of Remus/Sirius (and to an extent, Sirius/James, and Snape to an extent) purely subtext and not address adult sexuality at all, as she did most other adult characters? I think she outed Dumbledore only after the seventh book was released because she had nothing to lose--she had her money and those who were angered by the revelation could ignore it, as it is not technically canon as it did not occur in the text.

She outed Dumbledore in response to a question from a fan at HP event. There was no guarantee that a question about Dumbledore's love life would have been asked at such an event, unless the person posing the question was a plant.

I dunno, I think you're giving JKR a lot more credit for awareness of the HP fandom than she actually has. She seemed totally unaware that there are a lot of Draco fans who don't care a bit about Tom Felton, and has repeatedly said "everybody loves Ron" when this is so obviously not the case.
