I agree that your choice of wording was poor. Saying that she's the "fucking bitchiest bitch to ever bitch" was bound to go over wrongly with some people. I know you probably didn't mean it like that, but on LJ proper wording is everything.

I kind-of agree, but I would rather think that the way she said it is just personality-speaking. I mean, it definitely would offend people, but in later comments she just says she just doesn't like the female character. She asked if she was dealing with a feminist because then it would prove that she is dealing with people who are on her back just because she said she didn't like a female character, or that the person could be one of those "crazy over-the-top feminists" that aren't really feminist. I don't know if you're the same person who said "too stupid to live", but if you are, then follow your own advice.

No, I'm not that person, just a random passerby anon who saw the wank and felt the need to add her two cents. I can sort of see the OP's point of view, but I honestly think careless wording was the cause of all this. There's no problem with not liking the character, it's just that some of her comments had slightly misogynistic undertones to them, whether they were intentional or not.

Re: 26

(Anonymous) 2008-03-31 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. In my point of view, though, I found the whole thing a knee-jerk reaction because even after she just said she simply didn't like the character, people were still beating her over the head; the entire scenario was unproductive.

Re: 26

(Anonymous) 2008-03-31 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Flipping the coin here. But if she had said the same thing about a MALE character NO ONE would have thought for a second that she was only saying it because he's a man. People just decided to take it and run with it. The thought 'Oh that's sexist' didn't cross my mind AT ALL. And once someone implies that she's being misogynistic suddenly everything she says can be misconstrued.

Which is why some people find arguing with feminists to be a pain in the ass, because anything you say can be twisted into something with misogynistic undertones.
