What's the little squiggly thing next to Stucky's X?

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2016-07-05 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like a heart to me.

Okay, are the X's relationships you CAN ship? Because I would assume they are not except for the fact there are hearts on the pictures.

OH you're right, I didn't see the squiggle heart on the Roy/Riza one.

I thought it was like "no heart" and the checkmark was like "a-ok"

OP can you clarify?

I am similarly onfused.

I think the X means 'not like me and my friend' and the heart means 'so I ship them'

Clarification by OP

There is a heart on Roy/Riza.
Check passes the litmus test (thereby squicky), and the x means it fails.

So x is too much like your best friend and you? Or not. I'm still confused.

Ooo, that's was I thought, but it's nice to have confirmation. I didn't even notice the hearts until I read the comments, lol.

Guess that makes sense? I rarely think of fictional friendships in relation to my own (for whatever reason...maybe none of them have been that similar), but I can see how that might make things weird.

(I'm a big fan of Steve/Bucky and Matt/Foggy, but when I was into Bleach I never much shipped Ichigo with anyone, and I was more into Roy/Hughes or Roy/Ed than Roy/Riza.)

Heh, it's nice to have an explanation for it at least, I still can't figure out why some ships ping for me and others don't. Like the closest pattern I can find is that it's usually my favourite character paired with my second fave(or at least one I really, really like) but there are some cases where this doesn't happen so idk man.

SHIPPING IS WEIRD.

I mean, that makes sense to me, if you associate a relationship with the non-romantic relationship you have with your friend, and your attitude toward the idea of romance with your best friend is a "Eww, they're like my sibling!" kind of deal, then naturally that would carry over to the fictional relationship you're comparing it to.
