Very Special Episodes where anorexia/depression/addiction is solved by a five minute pep talk.

I swear they're why people expect that to actually work IRL.

(Also, exposure therapy. Someone actually tried it on me once and it made everything worse. An actual therapist who knows what they're doing is the only person who should try it.)

Oh god, I hate when people do things that they know make you anxious and claim it's something like exposure therapy. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to understand that there's a difference between dealing with something in a controlled environment and having it sprung on you out of nowhere by someone with no respect for boundaries.

Not to mention, therapists get the patient's consent for the exposure therapy.

This was one reason I loved the Van Gogh episode of Doctor Who. It averted this trope so deliberately.
