How in tween shows the tween or teen main character always has two best friends, one male and one female. Having a group of three best friends is improbable enough (there's always one who's going to be the third wheel and feel left out) but kids that age never end up with two people of the opposite gender as their besties. Especially not boys. Unless they're gay. But nobody's gay in shows for that age group.

Uh, I'm a girl and my best friend from age 7 on was a guy. Nobody considered it weird in the slightest.

I'm talking about groups of three people, not two. But you know people were probably talking behind you guys' backs about how you were either both gay or going to marry each other as soon as you were legally adults, right?

Kids in school talk about each other all the time about literally everything.

it seems weird you seemingly still care what ten year olds might hypothetically think

My two best friends in middle and high school were a guy and a girl.

lol do people have to present sources now (what would they even put for that?) that something they claim about their own life is true?

I think you're way overgeneralizing.

This makes me laugh, because in high school I was inseparable from my two best friends--a girl and a boy. We all still talk every day and spend holidays together and stuff. But two of us are gay.

I kinda agree. I've never met a bff trio. I mean, even the prominent fictional example of Harry, Ron and Hermione makes Hermione the third wheel at times.

...although I'm obviously biased because I had my twin sister with me 85% of the time, lol. equal triumvirate just seem very unlikely from my POV. single friends always got surrounded by us, because you couldn't take them for granted.

I was part of a trio all through middle school and high school and there was no third wheel. Unless it was me and I didn't realize but I don't think so.

eh, I'll take your word for it. I've just never seen one, much less one that wasn't gender segregated. but see above.

Uhh.... all three of the 'besties' groups I was in as a kid were groups with two guys and a girl, and only one of us (me) was gay.

Huh. My BFF trio was always a quad, now that I think about it, and always 2 girls, 1 boy and myself.
