mine (the ones with the therapist who actually helped me a lot) were often just conversation and me talking a lot about my life. she didn't actually ask me very many question - some, yes, but it wasn't a long Q&A session. and it was more about my past and my relationship patterns than my "dreams". 90% me talking, 10% her responding, either with questions or feedback. Usually would be very boring to an outsider. Occasionally i cried but most sessions I didn't.

I never managed to find one I clicked with but I seem to have a natural talent for talking myself down from unhealthy thought patterns so it was never that urgent.

That is a really useful talent to have! :)

I think I went through four others and gave up before my mom convinced me to try this lady. So glad I did. At least one of the others was a good counselor probably but a bad fit for me. It's why I encourage people not to give up if their first experiences with therapists are frustrating.
