Yup. Tolkien envisioned Numenor to be somewhat Egyptian, and Gondor is based on Numenor. Tolkien even drew the crown:

He talks about this in one of his letters. "I think the crown of Gondor (the S. Kingdom) was very tall, like that of Egypt, but with wings attached, not set straight back but at an angle. - The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien - Letter #211"

And there is a Tolkien book I don't actually own. Well, going in my Amazon cart now. Thanks for the reference. Did not know about this one.
